If you’re looking for a 12-step program, you’re in the wrong place. I spent enough time in church basements to know that the “grungy” aesthetic of traditional recovery didn’t just feel outdated—it felt like a cage.
I’m building something different. This is the foundation of my movement and the heart of the story I’m telling. These are The Bright Rules:
1. Visibility Over Vacancy
Anonymity is a breeding ground for shame. We don’t hide our success; we wear it. If we want to end the stigma, we have to show our faces.
2. The Aesthetic of Vitality
Recovery shouldn’t smell like stale coffee and cigarettes. We trade flickering fluorescent lights for natural sunlight. Our environment should reflect the clarity of our minds.
3. Autonomy is the Medicine
We aren’t “powerless.” We are intentional. We don’t need a court-ordered signature to validate our worth; we choose our path every single day.
4. Representation Matters
If you don’t see yourself in the room, it’s time to build a new room. We are business people, creators, and survivors who deserve a community that looks like the lives we actually lead.
5. Recovery in Technicolor
Life isn’t meant to be lived in the gray scale of “just getting by.” We aim for a vivid, high-definition existence. If it isn’t bringing you light, it isn’t part of the plan.
