Part 1: The Identity Folder: Who Are You When the World Isn’t Watching?

We all carry them. Mental files stuffed with labels we didn’t ask for: the survivor, the worker, the “strong one,” the one who just makes it work. For a long time, I let my life be a messy pile of loose papers. I was reacting to every wind that blew, trying to fit into folders that other people had labeled for me. But if there’s one thing I’ve learned on the journey to Princesshayes.com, it’s that if you don’t label your own folders, the world will do it for you—and they usually get the filing wrong.

Opening the Tab

When I started separating my life into folders, it wasn’t just about being “organized.” It was about reclaiming my name. The “Identity Folder” is the most important one you will ever own. It shouldn’t contain your job title, your bank balance, or your past mistakes. Inside this folder, there should only be the truth: your values, your voice, and your “Why.”

The “Purge”

Before you can file away who you are, you have to throw out who you aren’t.

• The “Should” Files: “I should be further along,” “I should look like this.” Throw them away.

• The “Mistake” Files: These aren’t identities; they are just tuition for the school of life.

My Truth

In my Identity Folder, I’ve filed away a woman who is a storyteller, an advocate, and a visionary. I’ve filed away the letter I wrote to Oprah, not as a “dream,” but as a documented intent. By putting it in a folder, I’ve given it a home. I’ve told the universe: I am ready.

“You are the author of your own filing system. Don’t let someone else misplace your soul in the wrong drawer.”
